I've spent a lot of time this past few months learning about Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorder. As I listened and learned more about the challenges that my daughter is facing and will face as she continues to mature, many of the things I heard sounded familiar.
The first thing my father said when I told him there was a chance Lisa would be diagnosed with ASD was that by today's standard it was a little more broad than it should be and if it had been the same when I was a child I would have been diagnosed with Autism?!
Interestingly, as I shared my feelings about interacting with others in group therapy recently, the counselor pointed out that my symptoms were very similar to those recognized as Asperger syndrome.I have been advised to seek out resources in the community that treat adults with autism.
