Visit From Mark and Lisa

Our best friends, Mark and Lisa, visited this weekend. We watched the new movie, Troy, which was really not that great. We also saw Shrek 2 which was a very nice movie. We are glad that we got to spend some time with our friends and look forward to seeing them again soon.

Similar Schedules

The school we worked for made many promises to us before we came to Korea and almost all of them were forgotten once we were here. Among them was a similar teaching schedule.

Well finally Becky and I have a similar schedule this term. We are rejoicing together because for a change we can be together during the week. Unfortunatly, we have realized that one person we have tried so hard to befriend... is lost in the process. We will pray that God will work and help him get control of his life.

We also pray that God will give us guidence in what we should do in four months. Now that we have begun to rely on God as we should have done from the start things are looking better for us. We realize that the school we work for is one of the best hakwons in Korea, but the weekend duties make it very hard for us to attend a church that shares our beliefs.

Buttered Carrots

I really wanted butter carrots but finding canned carrots in Korea seems really hard. Fresh carrots are all over the place so I began to wonder, "What makes canned carrots soft and tender?" It turns out if you slice them and boil them for ten minutes drain off the water and pour a little melted butter and salt on them you have something that's even better than the canned product. I bet Becky and I are going to be eating a lot more soft and tender carrots now that I have figured this one out.

The space race

I just read about an article where they have dedicated 27 square miles of land to a space vehicle competition. The top prize of 10 million dollars goes to the vehicle that travels 62 miles into space and then returns safely to earth and can repeat the trip in less than two weeks.

I can just imagine the horror of a ship just exploding right there on the launch pad. Worse it travels 62 miles into space before plummeting back to earth. It's going to be a long time before I consider traveling in space. I honestly can't think of anything that I would like to see up there.

Trip to Costco

Becky and I have trouble working together on anything but a trip to Costco made me feel really great today. A few times I had to stress that if Becky wanted anything she should get it, but over all she got everything that she wanted.

The real surprise came when it was time to leave. Becky won't share an umbrella or hold my hand or just about anything else that causes a couple to have to work together. At costco we had to buy an extra bag and after we put everything into it that did not fit into our bags it was heavy. Becky took it and tried to carry it herself but I insisted that I should carry it.

The bag was extremely heavy and I set it down on the moving walkway as we headed to the exit. At this point I thought about the way that Koreans carry bags like this as a pair and asked becky to try picking up one handle. She did and the bag did not seem heavy at all anymore.

Becky did not try to pull away or drop her end or make it difficult and we actually worked together at something for a change. It made me feel great that we were actually sharing something even if it was work. I am glad I went to Costco with Becky.

Bible Study

I started a Bible study last night. I asked Becky to study with me. She agreed. I really hope she sticks with it because even though I am more enthusiastic than she is about it I know that I will still need her support to stick with it.

I have dedicated time to reading the bible and trying to learn something from it every day for a few weeks now. Everyday I ask God to give me wisdom in my marriage and seek his guidence in daily devotion. Since I have started this I have realized that I really need Becky. The truth is that we need each other very much.

2nd Kid's Night is Annouced

We are happy to announce that we will host another Kid's Night at our house on June 5th. Please let us know if you would like your child invited to our Kid's Night Over. Please note: Instead of playing computer games we will visit a park early in the evening and then return to the apartment to watch a movie. Unfortunately our laptops can't handle the high end games we played last time. We would also like to ask that each child please bring about four thousand for a pizza

John 1:1-5

In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn't make. Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

In the beginning... This is when God Created the heavens and the earth. The Word already existed before this. The Word is refered to as He which implies the Word is a man. This man was with God, This man was God. He was with God in the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth. He is the creator of everything. He was alive and had what makes other people live. With this life comes light which will never expire

Word (Greek - Logos)
A Greek philosopher named Heraclitus first used the term Logos around 600 B.C. to designate the divine reason or plan which coordinates a changing universe. This word was well suited to John's purpose in John 1.Thayer and Smith. "Greek Lexicon entry for Logos". "The New Testament Greek Lexicon".

Jesus Christ is the Word. Everyone who has the life Jesus offers has the light which that life gives. Those without life may see light, however those in darkness can not have life. The same with a light in a dark room. You can stand in a corner and see the light, but you are not actually in the light. Since all those with life have light, those in darkness can not possibly have life, and can not obtain life without obtaining light at the same time. Darkness then is death. The dead are in darkness, the darkness is an exclusion of light, light is given to those with life and life is Jesus Christ.
